Inaugural meeting of Manchester anthropologists interested in the anthropology of Britain

On Monday 19th October, several Manchester anthropology PhD Students met to explore connections and share insights into doing anthropology in Manchester and the UK more generally.

Key areas of interest are:- institutions- describing Manchester- class / childhood/ families/ policy/ urban regeneration/ immigration/ community/religion/sustainability/food/identity- doing fieldwork ?at home?

The aims for the group are:- invite speakers (from outside the university or internal)- meet up and discuss our projects and share ideas/readings/contacts

Next activities
1. Could we all write a short description (no more than a paragraph or two) about our projects and send them to George Poulton and also post them onto this blog
2. Put together collaborative reading lists (based on the themes that we are interested in) ?

Next meeting: Camilla and George will organise a speaker to come and talk to us, hopefully in November.

Funding: CRESC have given us quite a large budget which we can spend over the year. If any one has any ideas for speakers that they would like to invite, please get in touch. CRESC would like us to organise at least one event in collaboration with their ongoing projects.
